Upcoming Clinical Trials
Radiation Therapy is currently preparing for participation in two TROG Clinical Trials:
SAFFRON II TROG (13.01) Clinical Trial - Lung
Estimated Time Recruitment Opens: March 2016
Stereotactic Prostate Adaptive Radiotherapy with Kilovoltage imaging
Estimated Time Recuitment Opens: September 2016
Currently, BRICC is the only centre in Victoria that is participating in this trial.
The SPARK trial utilizes SABR for treating in-tact prostate cancers - this means that a high dose of radiation is delivered to the prostate in only 5 treatment sessions. Because this type of treatment is very precise, it is important to monitor the internal motion of the tumour (due to breathing and other abdominal movements) in order to ensure accurate treatment delivery. This trial uses KIM (Kilovoltage Intrafraction Monitoring) to perform continuous fluoroscopy imaging during your treatment to track gold seed markers inside your tumour. The results of this study may show better survival rates and reduced side effects for these patients. There is also a potential of using KIM for other treatment sites to improve outcomes.
