Treatment Techniques

At BAROC we deliver a variety of treatment techniques.  Your Radiation Oncologist will work with the Radiation Therapists to choose the best technique for you.
  •   3-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy: is a technique where the radiation is shaped to the tumour and avoids healthy tissues.

  •  Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT): is a technique that allows the dose to be sculpted around the tumour minimising impact on nearby healthy tissues.
  • 4D Computer Tomography (4D CT): allows us to take your breathing into account. We use this for a variety of treatments including breast and lung.
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT): is imaging used before your daily treatment to ensure your treatment is as accurate as possible. The use of pre-treatment scans to confirm the position of patients internal organs, known as Cone Beam CT (CBCT), in combination with atreatment couch that moves in 6 different plains ensure even greater accuracy for high precision treatments.
  • Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH): a technique used mostly for left sided breast cancer treatment.  It enables us to treat the breast tissue while minimising exposure of the heart. BAROC has now treated well over 100 breast cancer patients with DIBH.
  • Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR): is a cutting-edge treatment for small, early stage lung cancers and small lung metastases; it is highly focused and can delivery very high doses with very few side effects.
