Day Oncology

What is it?

Chemotherapy is a type of treatment used to kill cancer cells; it works by destroying them or slowing their growth. It is most commonly given in the form of an intravenous injection or drip; however some chemotherapy drugs can be given orally.

Depending on the type and stage of the cancer the aim of the treatment may be to try to cure the cancer completely, make other treatment (such as radiation therapy) more effective, reduce the risk of the cancer returning, or relieve symptoms and slow the spread of cancer.
