Yes, you are welcome to bring friends or family members with you to keep you company whilst you receive your treatment. Family and friends are also welcome to make use of the Wellness Centre and Cafeteria area whilst they wait.
How long will it take?
Depending on the type of cancer and the treatment, chemotherapy treatment can take from 30 minutes to eight hours.
Can I eat and drink beforehand?
Yes. It is important that you eat your usual meal, drink plenty of fluids and take your usual medication before your appointment, unless told otherwise by your doctor or nurse.
What should I wear?
It is important that you are comfortable during your treatment. We suggest you wear clothing with loose sleeves as your nurses may need to take a blood test, or put an intravenous (IV) drip in to your arm to deliver your treatment. Some people feel cold when they are receiving treatment so it is a good idea to bring something warm with you. If you are cold, please ask for a blanket.
What should I bring?
As some appointments can take several hours we recommend you bring something to help you pass the time (music to listen to, a book to read, your iPad or laptop etc.), or a friend or family member for company. We have several iPads with internet access available for patients; please ask a staff member if you would like to use one during your appointment.
Can I drive?
It is best to have someone drive you to and from your first appointment. Depending on your treatment, you may be able to drive yourself after your initial appointment.
Can I use my mobile/ipad?
Yes, you can use your mobile phone whilst receiving treatment. WiFi access can be established for your mobile device. Please discuss with your nurse if you are interested in arranging this.
